I also admire the compact packaging and that they’ve done away with additional software to toggle the different settings for my preferences in terms of dpi, side buttons and the led lighting. The no non-sense approach that MSI has applied on this mouse has given me an appreciation of the subtle details that’s been applied. Overall, the MSI Clutch GM40 is a good wired gaming mouse. Only then will you be able to determine which mouse is ideal for you and the games that you play. To anyone looking for their ideal gaming mouse, I would encourage you to try out different mice shapes and weights from different brands. The weight and shape issue has not convinced me enough to swap out my daily driver.
In addition to the weight, I found the shape of the GM40 to be a bit unnatural for my hands. On the other hand, the Razer Deathadder Chroma felt the heaviest compared to both mice. For my daily driver, I use a Logitech G305 lightspeed gaming mouse which feels lighter compared to the MSI Clutch GM40. I am fine with that as I prefer using it on a lower dpi.Īs for the drawbacks for this mouse, for me it would have to be the weight. The only downside for some is you won’t be able to fine tune the dpi to a particular value. With the Clutch GM40, it’s set in increments (1000, 1800, 2800, 3600 in default dpi mode and then 800, 1600, 32 in advance dpi mode).

As with other gaming mouse, this would have required you to install additional software to tweak the dpi settings. I really like this feature as it is a subtle addition to the hardware. Taking you to the advanced mode where you can toggle the dpi up to 5000! If you hold both the first left and right side buttons, the lighting pattern changes. The lighting is not merely for aesthetics as it also serves a practical purpose based on the flashes.
The mouse also features a red led lighting beside the side buttons and the MSI logo on the base of the mouse. The main left and right buttons feature Omron switches coupled with PMW3310 optical sensor for durability and accurate register of your clicks and flicks, which is crucial especially for FPS games.Īt the bottom of the mouse is a switch that toggles which side buttons you are using (L for left side, R for right and the lock disables both sides). It features an ambidextrous shape so the mouse is ideal for both right and left handed people with additional buttons on both sides, a braided cable which is practically the standard in terms of wired peripherals and a scroll wheel and DPI adjuster in the middle. Inside you get the product itself and a quick set up guide so you can start fiddling with the mouse settings. I always appreciate it when companies use recyclable packaging on their products as well as minimal use of plastics. The mouse comes neatly packaged in its box.
